Bennett, a 24-year-old Canadian, was picked up by the Giants after spending several summers playing baseball in the independent leagues across the country. Almost immediately upon settling in with the Giants, Bennett found himself a role playing for San Jose down the stretch during the High-A club’s Cal League playoff run as a second baseman and middle-of-the-order lineup threat.

With a compact left-handed stroke and some gap-to-gap power therein, Bennett has the opportunity now to have an impact on the Giants’ system in the high minor leagues in 2017 — and while he’s past the point of being a prospect in the most literal sense, there’s a significant chance he can one day soon impact the big league club in a utility infield-type of role.
