San Bernardino, California —— On Tuesday night, Los Angeles Angels third baseman Yunel Escobar played third base for the High-A Inland Empire 66ers in a rehab assignment, his first game action back since suffering an oblique injury several weeks ago with the big league club.

Escobar, 34, got three at-bats in the game, an eventual 66ers come-from-behind win; he grounded out on the first pitch he saw batting second in the bottom of the first inning, and then struck out in his next two at-bats against San Francisco Giants left-handed pitching prospect Garrett Williams to finish his appearance.

Baseball Census was on location last night at San Manuel Stadium to see Escobar’s rehab, and we’ve got a full video of all three of his at-bats. You can watch that below:

The results of Escobar’s at-bats were less than ideal, but it’s a first game back and the first box is checked in his potential return to Anaheim. He looked good in the field, both pre-game and during game action, before being removed in the seventh inning. Assuming all went well in recovery last night after his first game action in several weeks, the Los Angeles Angels will reportedly send Yunel Escobar back to Inland Empire to play one more rehab game tonight, also against the San Jose Giants. We’ll be in attendance for that one, as well, and we will update with more footage of Escobar’s at-bats as we get it.
