Peoria, Arizona —— This week at the Arizona Fall League, we caught up with Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Kyle Lewis, who is out here playing for the Peoria Javelinas just a month after having won the California League championship as a member of the High-A Modesto Nuts. The outfielder, a product of Mercer University and one of the top-ranked prospects in Seattle’s system, took a few minutes to talk with our on-air host Sande Charles.

In the video, the pair ran through several different topics including Lewis’ history at Mercer, how his knee is doing, and a few other things. You can watch them discuss all that, plus early impressions of the AFL, Robinson Cano, and more around Lewis’ career and experiences here:

In addition to this interview, Sande also got Kyle Lewis to show us how he goes through his batting stance, what he thinks when he steps into the box, and what rituals and habits he has as he comes to the plate. We’ll publish and post that video soon; stick around for that and more game video from Kyle Lewis this month and next at the Arizona Fall League.

The outfielder, who has been dealing with a serious knee injury for much of his career, was in really good spirits this week and finally feels like he’s healthy and completely ready for competitive game action at the AFL after taking the last few weeks after the regular season to rest and get right. Even though I covered him in the Cal League this summer, this was my first time actually meeting Lewis; he’s a big, strong kid with a remarkable attitude and likability and some serious camera presence (wait until you see Lewis go through his stance). The Seattle Mariners have themselves natural leader with some charisma here, and that combined with his raw talents might make for a true star before too long.

Enjoy this video interview, and remember: we’re posting dozens of these player interviews from the AFL over the next few weeks. If you want to see them all, from prospects representing all 30 big league organizations, click here and subscribe to the Baseball Census YouTube channel.
