Scottsdale, Arizona —— Late last week during Arizona Fall League play, we caught up with New York Yankees left-handed pitching prospect Justus Sheffield before a Scottsdale Scorpions game for an exclusive video interview. One of the top pitchers in the Yankees’ system and among the best left-handed pitching prospects in baseball, Justus Sheffield made 17 starts for Double-A Trenton during the 2017 season, missing considerable time with an oblique injury that necessitated his presence here in Arizona to fill out his season innings total and work on some things against the best prospects in baseball.

Baseball Census‘ on-air host, Sande Charles, spoke with Justus Sheffield about that injury and his goals here at the Arizona Fall League and wanting to make up for lost time. The pair also touch base on Sheffield’s older brother, Jordan Sheffield, who is himself a pitching prospect with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

They also hit on what it’s like to pitch as an undersized prospect, his experiences with the trade to the New York Yankees, and more… like the time Justus Sheffield went on StubHub to buy big league tickets to see Yankee Stadium for the first time. Watch all of that in a solid video interview here:

It’s always fun to meet the little brother considering I saw so much of his older brother earlier this season in the California League, and Justus Sheffield comes as advertised with good insight and a solid outlook on what he’s doing out here at the Arizona Fall League. Still just 21 years old, Justus may well begin 2018 with the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees and could reach the big leagues by the end of next year assuming all goes well there.

As the AFL season wears on, we’ll have game video of Justus Sheffield in action, and you can watch the New York Yankees prospect pitch in addition to our sit-down interview here.
