Jesus Sanchez Scouting Report — OF, Tampa Bay Rays

tampa bay rays baseball 1 jesus sanchez scouting report
Prospect: Jesus Sanchez
Position: Outfielder
Organization: Tampa Bay Rays
Height/Weight: 6’3″, 210 lbs.
Bats/Throws: L/R
Age/DOB: 20 (October 7, 1997)
Acquired/Hometown: Int’l FA (Higuey, DR)
Date(s) Seen: 2018 Spring Training

Timed 4.31 and 4.34 up the line from LHH box in my looks.

Physically well-built kid; decent athlete for his size, but struggles to get coordinated and move smoothly in the outfield; young with long legs; sort of a baby deer situation. That said, real athleticism and significant physical upside that’ll produce power in the future; built kid who will add muscle in time… Well-balanced and shoulder-width at the plate with decent-sized leg lift/leg kick to work back into load position. Still raw in approach; will chase; relatively poor strike zone discipline. Encouraging physicality and raw power, with already a track record of actualizing some of it. Expect him to hit for power in future, and he’ll need to for projection/role … Very good arm in right field; strong velo and carry on throws; definitely enough arm strength to keep him there. Accuracy is so-so and should improve with more reps/age. Will be a nice tool for him at ceiling … Struggled with reads in the outfield on balls off the bat; playing RF in my look, more of a track record in LF. Struggled to read spin off bat, trajectory of balls off to foul line. Was in spring training look; may be just a reps issue.

Few years away; pretty raw and in the early stages, but easily enough physical upside and raw power to project into an everyday corner outfield role at ceiling. Perhaps some work to be done defensively based on a couple of my looks in the outfield, but the bat is the priority — if Jesus Sanchez hits for power, the value will be there for the Tampa Bay Rays.
