byu baseball prospects news 1 daniel schneemann scouting report
Prospect: Daniel Schneemann
Position: Shortstop
Organization: Brigham Young University
Height/Weight: 6’1”, 180 lbs.
Bats/Throws: L/R
Age/DOB: Junior (Four-Year)
Acquired/Hometown: Chula Vista, CA (Bonita Vista HS)

February 17-20, 2018 — Tall, lean build with some room to grow into his frame and add muscle; should grow into durable everyday guy in that regard with some added strength, though getting close to final physical form … Decent runner with better lateral quickness and first step in the field than overall foot speed down the line; showed 4.28 up the line from the LHH box; 3.84 to first on a bunt; 4.54 on the turn at first base … Lefty swinger does some damage at the plate, particularly to his pull side; swing can get long with some bat wrap, but he shows good bat speed and he’ll unload on the ball when timed right. Line drive pop with gap-to-gap ability, and decent plate coverage, though far better/more effective on inner half and to his pull side … Strong arm from shortstop; consistent accuracy to target, above-average hands in the field; advanced defensive infielder who moves well side to side and shows off a quick release on the run and off balance; plus arm strength that’ll help give him a shot in pro ball as a defensive infielder … Advanced all-around player; not flashy or above-average offensively, but he’ll get the job done; likely a utility infielder in pro ball at ceiling who can match up as a left-handed hitter; Daniel Schneemann is having a down year at the plate for BYU in 2018 relative to his earlier career numbers, but he’s a mature, advanced all-around prospect who has value. The glove more than anything will carry him; Schneemann is a proficient defender who should adjust well to the pro game and could see time across the infield as a utility man.
