Ramon Gomez Scouting Report — 3B, Oxnard College

oxnard college baseball prospects news 1 ramon gomez scouting report
Prospect: Ramon Gomez
Position: Third Base
Organization: Oxnard College
Height/Weight: 5’11”, 180 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: Freshman (Two-Year)
Acquired/Hometown: Camarillo, CA (Camarillo HS)

April 23 — Lean, likely smaller than 180 lb. list weight; good athlete with great reactions at third base. Good jumps on the ball, particularly quick first step side to side; covers ground laterally and is quick to one step and a dive. Decent arm at third base, too; consistent and accurate with enough strength to make it work. Fits well there, seems suited for the hot corner … Timed 4.29 up the line from the RHH box; 4.61 on the turn at first base … Short, compact, simple approach and stroke at the plate. Not a ton of raw power or projectability through frame, and should remain a punchy line drive guy with some feel for contact. Access to all fields with decent enough barrel skills; might make for a tough at-bat as he ages; unspectacular, but solid … Overall, Ramon Gomez is a pretty decent freshman find for Oxnard College; not sure I see a ton of long-term MLB Draft upside in him down the road, but he’s got a shot to develop into a solid, consistent defensive infielder and productive bat and should have a strong college career the next several seasons.
