May 30-31, 2018 — Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Double-A, Texas League)
Glove-first utility-type infielder, enjoying a strong start to the 2018 season in his first taste of Double-A. Undersized with average/below tools across the board, but glove is good enough play across the infield at higher levels. Soft, quick hands; good exchanges, quick releases with good sense of runner/speed and time to throw. Average arm strength; fits better at third/second than short, but could play all in short stints/utility role. Like the lateral quickness and reaction time to ball off the bat; overall average, consistent fielder … Timed 4.24 up the line from the RHH box; 4.52 on the turn at first base; 8.24 home to second (standing double, safe) … Good contact skills at the plate; feel for the barrel with surprising bat speed. Smaller guy without a ton of apparent raw power, but did belt a truly massive home run to left field in my late May look; decent enough bat speed and barrel manipulation for some sneaky pop like that, perhaps, though my hunch is it’ll better manifest itself as gap-to-gap doubles power in the future than consistent over-the-fence production. Regardless, bat has some juice in it; that could push Jecksson Flores towards ceiling of a utility role with the Kansas City Royals one day soon if he keeps it up; floor closer to organizational depth with likely up-and-down role in profile ahead.
