Dane Acker Scouting Report & Game Video

Position: RHP
Height/Weight: 6’2”, 194 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Birthdate: N/A
Hometown: Brenham, Tex.
School: Rice University (Brenham HS)
FV (20-80): N/A (Role TBD)

Dates Observed: June 20, 2018

Team/Organization: Santa Barbara Foresters (California Collegiate League)
League/Level: College summer baseball
Scouting Notes: Three-quarters release with some recoil back through follow-through; works from first base side of the rubber to corral some of his ample arm-side life. Loose, long arm action with good extension out front. Heavy fastball that bores in on RHH, can really wreak havoc as summer ball guys adjust to wood bats. Decent plane from good height and release; pitch life really plays up when he works down in the zone … Sat 87-92 with his fastball here; paired it with an 80-83 changeup, a 72-74 curveball, and a 77-80 slider … Changeup tunnels well with his fastball; both pitches show arm-side life with fade down to RHH back foot, changeup more pronounced there … Easy velo out of his hand, downward plane helps pitch life and ball explode to the plate considerably … Slider and curveball are distinct enough from each other; more depth to curve, though neither breaking ball is considerably large; slider shows more sweeping action across to glove side, while curve has tighter downward break late at the plate … Lost command in the second inning and everything ended pretty quickly for him; stuff is good enough to attack hitters down in the zone, but struggles when he tries to get too fine to corners; command profile has a ways to go to improve, but arm strength with interesting, projectable repertoire is there; some upside ahead in the next couple years for Dane Acker.
