Brad Demco Scouting Report & Game Video
Dates Observed: June 21, 2018
Team/Organization: Santa Barbara Foresters (California Collegiate League)
League/Level: College summer baseball
Scouting Notes: Cross-body deception through mechanics with closed-off landing spot, sidewinder movement with low three-quarters release point and hard fall across his body and off to third base on follow-through. Big time deception with mechanics and good natural pitch life; hides the ball very well from LHH here and makes for an uncomfortable at-bat for them, though RHH will hit him harder/see him earlier and be far more comfortable digging in … Fastball sat 86-90 in this look, paired with a 76-80 slider and a 79-82 changeup … Good fastball life with late, tight run back to arm-side and some occasional natural sink thanks to arm angle/arm action … Sweeping slider is more horizontal across the plate than vertical in depth and break, but still proves to be a tough pitch to square up, particularly for LHH. Tight spinner; shows some encouraging depth with it at times already; likely enough feel for spin here to manipulate more depth into the break as he develops … Good-looking tumble to changeup already with some feel to throw it for strikes; a workable third pitch, could be a serviceable look against RHH in the off-chance he has to face them in high-leverage situations in pro ball. Fastball/slider is bread-and-butter look for matchups, but changeup could come on strong as good third look in time … A relief ace already for Sam Houston State, Brad Demco will almost certainly be a left-handed situational reliever in pro ball. Decent chance to reach his 45 FV ceiling in that role; eligible for the 2019 MLB Draft out of Sam Houston State and could prove to be a decent pro relief arm in a few years’ time.
