Raymel Flores Scouting Report & Game Video
Dates Observed: May 21-24, 2018
Team/Organization: Visalia Rawhide (Arizona Diamondbacks)
League/Level: California League (High-A)
Scouting Notes: Fleet-footed switch hitter with little upside offensively; physically undersized, but a decent defender at second base and likely to fall into catch-all middle infield bench role at ceiling … Timed 3.85 (RHH) on a base hit bunt in my look here; also ran 4.15, 4.16, and 4.17 up the line from the LHH box on full swing contact. Good foot speed with great first-step quickness; decent instincts for a runner; should swipe a few bags … Weak hitter from both sides of the plate, particularly LHH; really limited offensively, doesn’t get his whole body into his swing, weak hands and wrists, producing a considerable amount of weak ground ball contact at present. Patient hitter, and will work deep counts, but struggles with strikeouts and got overmatched multiple times in my late May look; lots of work to do to become anything of value offensively … Glove will be carrying tool; decent defender at second base in particular, moves well side to side and shows good range up the middle in particular; arm is OK, probably a little bit below-average, but more than enough for second base and/or bench role … Raymel Flores is most likely an org depth guy with a pretty limited future role; poor offensive tools hurt him considerably and while his glove game is fine, I don’t think it quite overcomes to the point of carrying him that far. Maybe a narrow avenue for a big league bench role or up-and-down gig at ceiling, but for me, he’s most likely an org guy playing it out.
